This is a little mystery from Neil at the excellent Maher Cup website:
At the Maher Cup reunion last week someone showed me an enamelled matchbox holder. In one side was a picture of the Maher Cup, on the other was this portrait of a player. Sorry I forgot to write down who showed it to me. Anyway I think the person is Col Hargreaves, probably in a Group 9 representative team guernsey from the late 1930s ….although as his cousin Bill (Clare) died in an industrial accident on the Tumut River is 1953 aged 42 – perhaps it was made in his memory. Any ideas?
